A domestic dispute led to criminal charges against a father and son in Marion.

According to the McDowell County Sheriff's Office, Thomas Howard Stafford, 64, and Daniel Thomas Stafford, 30, both of Tom's Creek Road, were arguing at home on Dec. 21.

Deputies said during the fight, Daniel Stafford struck his father with a hatchet. Investigators said that Thomas Stafford responded by grabbing a handgun and firing it at Daniel.

However, investigators said the bullet ended up hitting another son, Taylor, in the left arm. He was taken to McDowell Hospital and transferred to Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville for treatment of his injury.
