A viewer of “The 700 Club” told televangelist Pat Robertson on Jan. 4 that he had been sexually assaulted by his mother when he was younger. The viewer, Jonathan, asked whether or not he should call the police about his mom or “turn the other cheek” (video below).
According to RightWingWatch.org, Robertson replied, “Jonathan, I think the thing to do is to let that thing rest. Good grief, your mother assaulted you? It’s hard to believe."
Robertson's co-host reminded him that sexual assault of children by their parents does happen.
"It’s so rare, but in any event, she’s your mother, I mean, you’ve got to love her," Robertson advised. "I pray that she might find the Lord and God will forgive her for that and you should forgive her too. But you’re going to charge her and ask for her to be put in jail now that you’re in your late 20s? Of course not.”
During the same broadcast, Robertson said that God told him that the oil fields in Saudi Arabia were gong to be set on fire and gas prices would skyrocket, but added there were good tidings in the future for his cable network, CBN, and college, Regent University, reports RightWingWatch.org.
“This is going to be a year of miracles,” Robertson predicted. “This is going to be a year of growth for the church, it’s going to be a year of prosperity for CBN and for Regent University, and we’re going to see more and more and more of the blessing of God on his people despite what may be chaos in the world.”
