A South Carolina woman bit off her teenage attacker's tongue during a rape attempt, WCSC Live 5 News reports.

The woman, 33, of North Charleston, South Carolina, told police the incident occurred when the teen forced his way into her home and attempted to sexually assault her in her bedroom.

Around 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 16, the woman says she heard a knock on her door. She answered the door, but returned to bed after initially finding no one there.

She reportedly answered the door two more times, after a few more knocks and a ring. The second time she answered the door, she saw the teenage male at the side of her house, holding a knife with a white handle, according to a police report of the incident.

The woman reportedly yelled, "No!" and tried to run back into her house, but the teen allegedly forced his way through the front door as she was trying to close it.

The woman said the teen then tackled her to the floor and punched her several times, telling her to "stop fighting and I won't hurt you," WCSC reported.

According to the police report, the suspect then asked the woman where her bedroom was, and picked her up and took her there. He reportedly tried to forcibly remove her shorts, but she stopped him by kicking him in the groin.

At this point, the woman said the suspect became enraged and told her: "Now you have to die!" before forcing his tongue into her mouth.

The woman says she responded by biting down hard on the suspect's tongue. She told police that she "bit his tongue as hard as she could until she heard it snap." She then took the severed tongue and threw it on the kitchen floor.

The woman said she believed the attacker was still in her home when she got into her car and fled, according to WCSC. Since she had left her phone and tablet at home, she drove to a nearby business and called the police.

When officers from the North Charleston Police Department arrived at the woman's home to investigate, they found blood on the bedroom floor, but the suspect was no longer there.

Police said the teen was found later that day at a local Waffle House after his mother called 911 and asked for emergency assistance because her son was missing his tongue. The suspect was then taken to Trident Hospital to be treated.

The teen, who is now facing several charges, was identified as the attacker, police said. His tongue was found by crime scene investigators and placed on a bag of ice. Officers also found a knife with a white handle in the woman's yard.

The incident was not the first time a victim has bitten off her attacker's tongue during a sexual assault attempt.

In January, 29-year-old Adele Barber bit off her attacker's tongue when he assaulted her in an alley in England, the Mirror reported at the time. The woman reportedly took the tongue home with her as DNA evidence to help convict her assailant.
