Australia teen Sevdet Ramadan Besim reportedly planned to pack a kangaroo with explosives, paint it with the Islamic State symbol and set it loose as a terror plot recently.
Besim, 19, was also accused of plotting to behead a police officer during a Veterans’ Day ceremony in Melbourne last year. Since then, Besim has been ordered to stand trial, although he is pleading not guilty for four terror charges.
On Jan. 28, police reported that Besim was planning the attack with a British accomplice while doing online searches about Gallipoli landings commemoration events. Besim wrote that he was ready to “fight these dogs” on their doorstep.
“I’d love to take out some cops,” Besim reportedly said. “I was gonna meet with them then take some heads.”
According to ABC, a separate document also allegedly summarized the kangaroo bomb event.
“The conversation continues with BESIM detailing what he did that day and they have a general discussion around animals and wildlife in Australia including a suggestion that a kangaroo could be packed with C4 explosive, painted with the IS symbol and set loose on police officers,” a police document noted.
Police have alleged that Besim was motivated to act by extremist ideology and has supported or expressed support for radical ideology like the Islamic State movement.
Besim is expected to appear in Supreme Court. He faces a potential life in prison sentence if convicted of the charges.
