Doug Richard, an American multimillionaire famous in the UK for appearing in television show "Dragon's Den," has been cleared of charges related to having sex with a 13-year-old girl.
The 57-year-old Richard is an entrepreneur in the tech industry and became famous for being a judge on the BBC show “Dragon’s Den,” which was brought to the U.S. in the form of “Shark Tank.”
He was also an associate of British Prime Minister David Cameron, advising him on his finances in 2011, according to The Telegraph.
Richard was arrested on Jan. 5, 2015 for meeting with a 13-year-old girl in London and having sex with her. He was charged with sexual activity with a child, causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and paying for sexual services.
Richard admitted in court that he had searched for sexual partners on Seeking Arrangements, a website designed to link up “sugar daddies” with “sugar babies.”
“As mortifying it is to say, I was looking for roleplay and fantasy relationships involving dominance and submission,” Richard said.
The millionaire arranged for two teenagers from Norwich to travel down to London, where he took them to a hotel room. He had sex with the younger teenager, who had allegedly lied that she was 16-years-old, the age of consent in the UK.
Richard then paid the girls the equivalent of $500 to go shop.
The jury Richard’s case deliberated for four hours before ruling Richard not guilty of all three counts on Jan. 29.
There was another high-profile sexual assault case in the UK involving a millionaire in 2015.
46-year-old Ehsan Abdulaziz, a millionaire property developer, had been accused of raping an 18-year-old girl in London. Abdulaziz told authorities that he had never touched her, USA Today reports.
After DNA evidence revealed Abdulaziz’s semen inside of the victim, he changed his story, telling police that he had finished having consensual sex a 24-year-old woman, tripped and fell atop the 18-year-old while she was sleeping on the couch.
He was also found not guilty.
