Some aren't smiling when they say cheese.

McDonald’s customers taking to social media to protest what they say are is a crucial missing ingredient to the chain's mozzarella sticks: cheese.

And to further their argument of what some say is just "fried air," they’re posting images of hollowed-out sticks on Twitter, Business Insider reported.

McDonald's launched mozzarella sticks nationwide this month as part of a new "McPick 2" promotion, which allows customers to pick two of the following for $2: a McDouble, a McChicken, small fries, and mozzarella sticks.

The mozzarella sticks are also available on their own, costing $1 for three sticks.

The fast food chain issued an apology on Thursday after social media users took to Twitter to complain about the lack of mozzarella in their cheesy snack.

"We are aware of a low volume of guest concerns about our Mozzarella Cheese Sticks," Lisa McComb, a spokeswoman for McDonald's, told the Chicago Tribune.

Hahaha... that's happened to me before at other restaurants.

Ok so this begs the question, how exactly are they manufacturing them so that they could be formed without cheese inside?

I mean, mozza sticks should just be a as simple as a stick of cheese thrown in some sort of egg-wash, battered, then fried. How in the world do they make empty but still shapely mozza sticks?! It's kind of impressive.

They were just over cooked. All the cheese melted into the fry oil.

Wait... how do they get the caramel inside the caramilk bar?

They're known as Caramello bars here in the US... or the caramello bars are very similar but not quite the same as what you have up in Canuckistan.

I imagine (this is an opinion) that they would freeze the caramel first then coat it in liquid chocolate and place it in a mold where the chocolate hardens to a sufficient shell.

Or, you know... black magic.

But caramel doesn't really freeze  Think about those caramel filled ice-cream things you buy in the frozen foods section man! It's too much. This is all too much.
