Timbaland's reps have responded to claims the hip-hop producer refused to perform at a benefit gig for Flint's residents due to a dispute over champagne.

According to the Daily News, Timbaland was booked to DJ for half an hour and perform five to eight songs at Detroit's Club Bleu last Thursday. Though, it has been claimed by the venue's promoter Mitchell Jaworski, Timbaland pulled out of the arrangement when the wrong bubbly was served.

"Unfortunately, the statement made by the promoter in Detroit is simply not true," Timbaland's rep says in a statement provided to Billboard. Timbaland is an "extremely generous person who agreed to a much lower fee for this event to raise money for the Flint, Michigan's water crisis," the statement continues. "The promoter was fully aware that this was not a full band performance on stage, yet still promoted it as such. The club was still able to raise money for charity, which was our goal in doing this event all along."

The problems started, the Daily News reports, when the venue did not stock Timbaland's preferred brand of alcohol, Jay Z's Armand de Brignac ("Ace of Spades") valued at $300 a bottle. So Dom Perignon was poured instead.

"They had about 15 bottles of liquor and champagne, which is extremely excessive especially for a charity event," Jaworski told the title. "They seemed more concerned about getting every drop of liquor."

Timbaland reportedly took to the stage after 1 a.m. and stood in an act of defiance, nodding his head to the beat as another DJ performed.

The event reportedly generated upwards of $3,000 to buy bottles of water and filters for residents of Flint, which has struggled with a drinking water crisis linked to lead contamination. Cher has personally pitched in by shipping more than 180,000 bottles to the city.
