In a world in which sexuality is fluid and ever-changing, it makes sense that there are now apps to help people experiment without the labels.
Enter BRO. It’s a new app designed for straight men who are curious about what they could be getting up to with other men who identify as heterosexual.
And no, we’re not just talking about hang-out sessions. We are indeed talking about sex. Two straight dudes, having sex.
The app allows dudes to choose what they’re seeking from a range of options: dates, conversation, friendship, a ‘long-term bromance’, or a ‘whatever, bro.’ We think the last one means penis stuff.

BRO is open to gay and bisexual men, too, but has been specifically designed to give those who don’t fit into the ‘gay’ stereotype a space to explore their sexuality without judgment.
Oh, and nudity is banned, so it’s not all dick pics and sexting. Interesting.

We’ll be honest. We’re a little concerned about the internalised homophobia the app could encourage. It’s a bit worrying that there are men interested in gay sex, but want to stay far, far away from the gay label.
Bustle points out: ‘Basically, the patrons of BRO are cashing in on all the best parts of queer sexuality — like sex-positivity, a safe space to discuss their non-heteronormative interests, and the general support of a nonjudgemental, like-minded community — while avoiding the painful struggles of queer life. It’s not fair.’

That being said, we’re all for apps that allow men and women to try out same-sex relationships and explore their sexuality.
If BRO allows more men to try something they enjoy and learn more about themselves without enforcing the rigid definitions of ‘straight’ or ‘gay’, then it can go right ahead.
