Distressed Syrian parents reportedly watched on Jan. 30 as their teenage son was publicly beheaded by ISIS for missing prayers.
The 14-year-old was accused of apostasy after allegedly missing Friday prayers in the central mosque of Jarablus.
The news of the execution was reported by local civil rights activist Nasser Taljbini.
Only pro-ISIS preachers are welcome to lead prayers at the mosque and it is used solely to impose ISIS as the prevailing power in the region, according to the Mirror.
"Dozens of people attended the brutal execution, including the victim’s parents who were forced to witness the beheading of their own son,” said Taljbini. "ISIS is trying to prove that it is still powerful despite all the military defeats. The group is trying to terrorize people through conducting such public punishments."
Local sources in Jarablus say ISIS views teenagers as prospective jihadis who should be indoctrinated with Sharia schooling to stay devoted to the caliphate’s message, according to ARA News.
