The first non-nude Playboy magazine cover, and a few more inside pics, were released on social media Thursday.

The March 2016 issue debuts the men’s magazine’s much talked about transition from women in their birthday suits to women in their swimsuits (or the clothing equivalent).

The first cover gal is a 20 year-old model named Sarah McDaniel and the issue’s theme is, not surprisingly -- social media.

Ernest Hemingway’s great-grand daughter Dree Anderson also makes an appearance in the magazine as its first non-nude centerfold, wearing a revealing white button down and skivvies. (Her mother Mariel appeared in the magazine in 1982.)

Playboy claims its new photos are not airbrushed either, a far departure from the past pictorials featuring highly edited models.

The March 2016 issue hits newsstands on February 12.

Now they can focus on 15 year old girls since they are now non-nude..

I still find this departure from what built them up so strange... porn is SO accessible. Like hard core, raunchy, anything your mind can dream up, rule 34 wild shit. It's free, easy to find and endless.

Why wouldn't they go more raunchy, not less? There's more smut in women's magazines.

Maybe porn can't go any further?

I'll take a shot at answering this. It's a calculated risk. Playboy was in the middle. Too risque to be an acceptable subscription to the wife or to leave out on the coffee table, not risque enough to compete with porn. You're right, even the wildest rule 34 shit is easily accessible, but that's not Playboy's market. They are after the classy gentlemen who appreciates a sexy woman. They didn't go full pussy when Hustler took market share... on principle.

I think it's brilliant. Reclaim the classy space in a time when easy access to debauchery rules. Look at Maxim. They have done extraordinarily well in that space. Playboy now becomes the upscale version of Maxim. And in a time when print is dying, Playboy just became relevant again by making receiving one acceptable. "I read Play for the articles" just became true.

To Muddy's point... careful with the young ones.

Will it work? Who knows.

I guess only time will tell. The picture you paint is quaint but I can't see it resonating with the under-30 crowd.

I don't think under 30 is their market. Did it resonate with under 30 before?

I had a subscription from the age of 18 to 26. I canceled when I got bored with the pictures and started to read the articles and found out they were shit. At that point I started reading men's magazines like Maxim, Men's Journal, and various others. That didn't last too long though. It always seemed that Men's magazines were always two steps behind. I blame the format. The internet has killed print media.

The advertising kills it for me. My wife bought me a couple men's mags for stocking stuffers. I swear they're 60 pages, 50 of them are watch, car or suit ads. It's impossible to find the articles they mention on the cover too

That sounds like GQ. That mag has to be 100+ pages, but if you take all the ads out, it would probably be only 12 or 13 pages of actual content.

Yeah, naked chicks are everywhere, and Playboys market share has not been strong for years, I think they just want to be able to get into grocery stores and the likes to sell more copies
