A shooting at a high school in Glendale, Ariz. Friday killed two students, both of them 15-year-old girls, and police say the school remains on lockdown.
Both girls were sophomores at Independence High School, according to investigators.

Dozens of worried parents waited at a convenience store for word about their kids. Cheryl Rice said she was frightened for her 15-year-old daughter but was relieved when the girl called to say she was OK.

It is not an active shooter investigation and no other students are in danger, police spokeswoman Tracey Breeden said.
The shooting unfolded shortly before 8 a.m. in a patio area on campus. "This occurred in an isolated area," Glendale Police Sgt. David Vidaure added.
Emergency vehicles including an ambulance were seen outside the building, Fox 10 reports. School officials told parents to meet students at a nearby Wal-Mart at W. Glendale Ave. & N. 75th Ave.

Streets are closed to traffic in the residential area around the school.
The Glendale Union School District website says the school has about 2,000 students and was founded in 1977. Glendale is 10 miles northwest of Phoenix.
