The City of Allentown, Pennsylvania, recently paid $100,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by Victoria Geist on behalf of her 14-year-old daughter, Keshana Wilson, who was tased in the groin by a school resource officer on Sept. 29, 2011 (video below).

Geist claimed in her lawsuit that Officer Jason Ammary used excessive force when he fired his Taser at Wilson on a street outside of Louis E. Dieruff High School, reported The Morning Call.

The 2012 lawsuit also accused the city of improper training and deficient policies.

The case was scheduled to go to trial in February, but after four years, the city suddenly decided to pay the six-figure settlement without admitting any wrongdoing.

At the time of the tasing, Geist said Wilson had to be taken to a hospital to have the Taser prongs removed, noted The Sun.

Ammary said that Wilson was arrested for using foul language, inciting a group of students, and elbowing him in the chin.

Ammary testified in a deposition that he would stop some students to run background checks on them to see if they had any warrants, which U.S. District Judge Lawrence Stengel said during a 2014 hearing "suggests a history of possible mishandling of students at dismissal which could amount to constitutional violations of students' rights," according to The Morning Call.

Allentown solicitor Susan Ellis Wild told The Morning Call via email after the settlement that the city would have won the trial, but added: "Such disputes are uniquely suited for settlement, especially given the potential for a high award of attorneys' fees, which likely would have exceeded any award in favor of the plaintiff. The downside risk is such that a business decision was made to resolve this matter."
