The incident occurred on Lexington Ave. near Malcolm X Blvd. in the Bushwick neighborhood around 3:30 a.m. One housing officer was struck in the chest and the other in the back, according to the Post.

The injured officers were following a suspicious car in an unmarked police cruiser that was driving the wrong way on Lexington shortly before the shooting, sources told the Post.

After crashing into another NYPD cruiser, a person in the car got out and opened fire on police officers.

Five officers returned fire and one suspect was shot, the Post reported. The suspect was also transported to Kings County Hospital but was in critical condition, the Daily News reported.

The NYPD said a 357 revolver was recovered from the suspect at the scene.
