For more than thirty years she has wowed audiences with her unusual form of entertainment; erotic dancing combined with a conjuring act that involves various items appearing magically from an, ahem, intimate part of her anatomy.

Performing six shows every night in Benidorm, her 30-minute act began with bunting and flowers being extracted from her nether regions, then ping pong balls, sausages and eggs before a finale of a string of razor blades, a bottle and a glowing light bulb.

The act, according to a 2007 review in Spanish national newspaper El Pais, has been seen by more than six million tourists and for many people, a holiday in Benidorm just wouldn’t be complete without taking in at least one show by Sticky Vicky.

The grandmother of two even brought in one of her two daughters, Demaria Leyton, to join her in the show.

But now at the grand old age of 72, Vicky has announced her retirement after being diagnosed with cancer.

"Just to let everyone know that the Legend Sticky Vicky Leyton and her real daughter Demaria Leyton have both retired from sexy magic shows," read the post on her Facebook page.

"Vicky at the age of nearly 73 has retired to spend more time with her family and her daughter has other projects that have nothing to do with sexy magic shows.”

The news has come as a disappointment to fans who took to social media to pay tribute to the Benidorm legend and to thank Vicky for entertaining them.

Geoff Sayers wrote: "Happy retirement Vicky, your an absolute legend and will be sadly missed. You've been part of Benidorm for as long as I can remember. All the best to Demaria in whatever she decides to do. Wish both of you well for the future. Take care. xxx"

Some shared the view that Benidorm would never be the same again.

Surprisingly her show wasn’t just popular with gentlemen clientele but the packed out audiences was also a hit with hen dos and groups of ladies on a night out.

Born in the Canary Islands, Victoria Maria Aragues trained as a ballerina in Barcelona before moving to Benidorm in the early 80s.

"A friend was a magician and he gave me the idea of making objects appear out of my sex but I taught myself," she said in a recent interview with The Lad Bible. "I practised a lot, the first thing I tried was handkerchiefs and simple things like that."

She even holds the trademark to "Sticky Vicky" - a nickname that she picked up from British tourists in the resort - after taking a copycat entertainer to court who attempted to start a show with the same name.

So synonymous was the star with Benidorm that she appeared in the eponymous ITV series.

Jonny Vegas, who has a lead role in the show, tweeted this tribute to the infamous performer:

“@CheapStag: Hitler hears about Sticky Vicky: http://t.co/2fDFL0LITc” Ah Sticky Vicky and her, ahem, sexy magic. A Benidorm legend
— Johnny Vegas (@JohnnyVegasReal) April 23, 2014

But she wasn't to everyone's taste. One disgruntled audience member who saw the show in the mistaken belief it was a cabaret commented on an expat website: "I have never seen anything more revolting in my life. I am seriously mentally scarred by it."
