Calgary - The apparent motive behind a home-invasion robbery was a sex tape with an underaged prostitute, court heard Wednesday.
But the man targeted in the crime said no such tape existed and he only had sexual relations with adult sex-trade workers.
Defence counsel Adriano Iovinelli told Justice Colleen Kenny that Mitchell Karazub explained to police two male attackers were looking for the phantom recording.
“The males were saying that he had an underaged prostitute and made a video of it,” said Iovinelli, whose client, Trisha Layne Daintry, pleaded guilty to a charge of break and enter to commit robbery.
“The complainant is adamant he had nothing to do with an underaged prostitute,” the lawyer added, referring to Karazub’s police statement.
Iovinelli made the comments while urging Kenny to review a video of Karazub’s statement to put some context into his client’s crime.
