A guest at the Ritz-Carlton in St Louis who crawled into bed and cuddled a nine-year-old girl is suing the hotel because, he claims, staff gave him the wrong key.

Daniel Hughes, who was found not guilty of sodomy and child molestation for the mix-up, said he thought the nine-year-old he cuddled was a woman he had met earlier in the evening.

Though he was cleared of charges of child molestation and sodomy, he claims he lost his high-powered job, and now he is suing the Ritz-Carlton for apparently giving him the wrong room key.

According to Hughes, he was saying in another hotel for the first part of his business trip to St Louis in room 1619. He was assigned to room 811 at the Ritz, but got the numbers mixed up and tried his key in room 1611.

He went to the front desk and staff, who didn’t check his ID or look up his name, gave him the key to 1611, he claims.

Hughes says the job he lost would have paid him $1million (£715,000) in 2015.
