MILLVILLE – Fantasy collided with reality for a Fairfield man who was arrested at police headquarters, where a dancer from a Vineland gentlemen’s club told police she had fled to get away from him early Monday morning.

Police said Michael Marlette, a 53-year-old Fairfield man, was charged with impersonating a New Jersey State Police officer. The arrest report indicates Marlette has the triangular state police emblem tattooed on his right shoulder.

Detective Sgt. Joseph Hoydis on Tuesday said the woman told police Marlette at one point pulled over her vehicle and ordered her out. Her driver, however, took off and headed to the South High Street station. Marlette followed her.

Hoydis said that Marlette called the dispatcher about 2:40 a.m. Monday and said that he was behind the station. He also allegedly said he was working for the state police, “off the grid,” and only was armed with “hands and feet that are registered.”

Marlette was charged with impersonating a public servant, stalking, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weaponfor an unlawful purpose, and harassment.

Marlette is free on bail of 10 percent of $2,500, or $250. Municipal Court Judge Lauren Van Embden included as a bail condition that Marlette obtain a psychological evaluation.

Hoydis said Marlette had a flashlight and a stick, allegedly displaying it in ordering the woman to leave her vehicle.
