Dad throws £4.2 million party for daughter’s 15th birthday

Maybe you celebrated turning 15 by going bowling, followed by pizza with your mates. Perhaps there were a few cheeky Diamond Whites involved.

We imagine it wasn’t quite on the scale of Texan teen Maya Henry’s 15th birthday.

For his daughter’s ‘coming of age’ party, Maya’s dad, personal injury lawyer Thomas J Henry, decided to push the boat out a bit. The $6m (£4.2m) bash was held in a purpose-built 55,000 square foot space in San Antonio.

Instead of just sticking up some balloons and banners, Thomas opted for 30ft cherry blossom trees, giant walls of roses, fountains, a garden room and a ballroom with fluttering butterfly garlands hanging from the ceiling.

During the evening, the 600 guests were also treated to performances by Nick Jonas and Pitbull.

The birthday girl wore a baby pink custom-made Rolando Santana dress and, instead of a bit of dodgy blue eyeshadow, she was treated to some Kardashian-level strobing by Kim’s makeup artist Patrick Ta.

Maya took to Instagram after the party to thank her celebrity performers.

She also puts her high profile social media presence to good use by supporting several children’s charities, including the San Antonio YES Foundation, which helps distribute school supplies to children in need.

And she hopes to mobilise her followers to support the Clinton campaign and bring awareness to issues surrounding opportunities for Latina America women.

Meanwhile, the high school student said of her epic party: ‘It was an amazing night, one I will never forget. I am so thankful to everyone who attended and to my amazing parents, who literally made my dreams come true.’

A girl's 15th birthday is huge in the Hispanic culture. My wife and I have been to a number of them, although certainly on a much lesser scale. It's not unusual for a girl's parents to spend more on this birthday than her wedding years later.
