Ready for some depressing sex-related statistics?
A new study by the Trojan Sexual Health Division of Church & Dwight Canada pretty much confirms what all young women suspected during their university years: women in college are giving more oral sex than they’re receiving.
The study surveyed 899 heterosexual Canadian college students, and found that while 63% of the men surveyed reported receiving oral sex as part of their most recent hookup, only 44% of women could say the same.
Let’s call it the oral sex gap, and get a bit shouty about how this is a very, very rubbish thing.

Oral sex is great. There is no reason for men to be getting blow jobs left and right, and only going down on women on occasion – especially when you consider that the study also found that nearly all the male and female students described receiving oral sex as ‘very pleasurable’.
So no, it’s not that women are less likely to want oral sex.
Interestingly, the men surveyed were more likely than the women surveyed to describe giving oral ‘very pleasurable’. 52% of male students were really excited about going down, versus only 28% of female students.
Which means that lots of men apparently want to go down, but aren’t.
And that lots of women apparently aren’t that in to giving head, but are doing it anyway. WTF?
What’s not clear is exactly why this oral sex gap is occurring.

Is it that going down on women is still seen as an extra-special act, while blow jobs are viewed as a given (um, yes)? Is it that female students are less comfortable asking for oral?
More research is needed, clearly, but we really hope this gap closes as we get older. Because seriously. Once we’re older and wiser, there’s NO reason we should be receiving less pleasure than we’re giving.
