Margaret Phillips is our new source of life inspiration.
Or sauce. Like, curry sauce. Sorry.
Margaret is 103-years-old. She credits her long life and general joy to eating loads of curry, drinking whisky, and, you know, keeping active. We’re focusing on the first two.
She’s been called the ‘nan who loves naan’ thanks to her true dedication to Indian food, which she fell in love with after living in India for two periods in her life – first with her husband William for three years, and later for 11 years when she remarried following William’s death.

After she publicly professed her curry-loving ways, the public rallied to get her nominated for Curry Lover of the Year at the Scottish Curry Awards. And yes. Those are real awards. They’re taking place next month.
‘The whole family is thrilled that she has been nominated,’ said Margaret’s daughter, Jacqueline.
‘It was a huge surprise but we honestly cannot think of anyone more deserving of the Curry Lover of the Year title.
‘She certainly makes a mean curry and, before she moved to Balcarres, she was famous within the family for her curry suppers, which she would hold on a regular basis.
‘We would like to thank everyone who has voted for her to get this far. We all have our fingers crossed for the big night – but either way she is already a winner in our eyes.’
