A Long Island, New York, woman has been arrested for suffocating her newborn baby to death and stuffing the body inside a plastic bag, police say.
Police were called to the home of Sharon Seudat, 20, on March 31 for a report of a woman excessively bleeding. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors determined she had just given birth, which she initially denied, according to NBC News.
After the exam, investigators discovered Seudat’s newborn baby, lifeless, in a black plastic bag in the garbage at her home, police say.
Seudat, a student at Nassau Community College, was arrested the next day for leaving her baby to die. She is being held without bail on two charges of second-degree murder and one charge of concealment of a human corpse, NBC News reports.
According to police, an autopsy confirmed that the baby died from suffocation after her birth.
