A teacher in Texas has been arrested for allegedly hitting a student after video of the assault was posted to social media (video below).
The video was posted to Twitter by user khay on April 8.
In the video, Ozen High School teacher Mary Hastings slaps a student repeatedly over the head while he is seated at his desk.
The student does not fight back.
“Because you’re stopping him from graduating you idiot ass,” Hastings says to the student while hitting him.
The student tells Hastings he did not, before she erupts into a howl and mocks him.
Hastings was arrested April 9 and faces one charge of assault, KBMT reports.
She has been placed on administrative leave pending action on her contract, according to a statement from Nakisha Myles, Special Assistant to the Superintendent of the Beaumont Independent School District.
The statement also said that the school district does not condone employees abusing children and will not tolerate such conduct.
