A woman obsessed with a man she had a one-night stand is now behind bars after pretending she was pregnant with his baby.
Charmaine Wilson, 25, was jailed for four months on two charges of making a false document after forging a birth certificate and DNA test results to convince Liam Griffiths, 31, he was the father of her child, which actually belonged to her friend, Wales Online reports.
Griffiths was planning on building a house on his parents' land so he, Wilson and their baby could have somewhere to live.
According to the Daily Mail, the lies, which went on for six months between December and May, were exposed when a friend of Griffiths, who knew the boy’s real parents, saw a photo of the child with him on Facebook.
“I am devastated and heartbroken to have lost a child that I thought was my son and had bonded with this child,” Griffiths told the Daily Mirror. “We fell in love with him from the start and I am heartbroken to have lost him.”
“The only word I can use to describe Charmaine and what she has done is mental and I cannot believe she would deceive me in this way,” he added.
Griffiths’ parents also fell for her con, giving Wilson gifts and even bought a car for her so she could get to and from work at The Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend.
The two met on a drunken night out in 2012. They shared taxi home and ended up having sex, but Griffiths was not interested in seeing Wilson after their fling. She became obsessed, stalking him so much on Facebook that he had to block her and even changed his phone number.
“I cannot think of words to say about how awful it is that a human being could deceive another in this way and cause the hurt and upset it has done to our family,” Griffiths’ mother, Catherine Thomas, said.
