Lidl’s just recalled all tinned herring from its branches because the labels don’t warn consumers that it contains fish.
Errm, what?
Apparently, the budget supermarket’s Herring Fillets were being sold without warning customers that it contains certain allergens.
These are milk, egg, mustard, gluten – and fish.
According to Food Standards Agency rules, possible allergens must be written, in English, on all food products.
The FSA said: ‘Lidl is recalling cans of Nixe brand assorted ‘Herring Fillets’ (200g) because they contain one or more of the following allergens: fish, milk, egg, mustard and wheat (gluten) which are not mentioned in English on the label.
‘This may result in a possible health risk to anyone with an allergy or intolerance to one of the above allergens.’
The supermarket is now urging anyone with these allergies to avoid eating the Herring Fillets and to return it to the store to get a refund.
A Lidl spokesman said: ‘We recalled the products because some items, including fish, egg and wheat, were not declared in the ingredients list and can be allergens for some people.’
