A white South African judge is under fire after she commented on Facebook that ‘black men see gang-rape as a pleasurable past-time.’
Judge Mabel Jansen suggested in social media posts on the filmmaker and ‘social justice activist’ Gillian Schutte’s page that rape was part of black culture and that murder is ‘not a biggy’.
Political parties and social media users were quick to condemn Jansen’s words as ‘shocking beyond belief’ and ‘purely racist’.
‘In their culture a woman is there to pleasure them. Period,’ Jansen wrote.

‘It is seen as an absolute right and a woman’s consent is not required.
‘I still have to meet a black girl who was not raped at about 12. I am dead serious.’
The opposition Democratic Alliance party said it would report the messages to the Judicial Services Commission to be investigated.

The woman’s league of the African National Congress (ANC) called Jansen’s remarks a ‘misrepresentation of black culture’.
On Twitter, Jansen said that her words had been taken ‘completely out of context and referred to specific court cases.’
She added: ‘The real issue… is the protection of vulnerable women and children and an endeavour to cure the pandemic.’
A petition calling for her dismissal has been launched.
