So, any thoughts on the premiere?

I liked it...felt more like old school Dexter (like season 1), which is a good thing IMO :)

I have no idea what Hammer Time is, or how it differs from regular time.

I liked the premier.I get the sense that the producers wanted to retool, get back to basics and they used the theme of change or stages of life
as a main focal point.

Some good lines in his monologues for sure  The religion exchange with Batista made me lol.How about that babe coming up and laying a bj on him?

Edward James Olmos and his protege (son?) weren't too creepy now were they? Awesome crime scene with the evisceration and the snakes.Notice how Dexter was almost drooling talking about it?

I've read some theories in another forum about this.....it's not far fetched.

I think that the intern had a secret obsession, or crush, on Brian and that's why she's taking a special interest in the Ice Truck Killer case. After she looks into the case herself, I think she'll notice things that everyone else missed. She has 'fresh' eyes, and no emotional tie to Dexter. Doesn't know him as a person, friend, brother, or coworker. She doesn't have a reason not to suspect he could be a monster, and from that, maybe find out that Dexter was the one to kill Brian
What made me think of this theory is the new intern, Ryan. she has already expressed interest in the ice truck killer case, saying that she religiously followed it. People are saying this is because she has a connection to Brian, but i think her obsession w/ the Ice Truck Killer case is just a stepping stone. eventually, she's going to start asking Masuka to show her evidence from other cases in the past -- maybe Trinity, The Skinner, barrel girls, and eventually the bay harbor butcher.

I liked how they approach the subject of spirituality from both sides.Dex doesn't shy away from his disbelief and the brother ex con doesn't ram it down his throat...to use a phrase.
Masuka amazed me when that chick sold the prosthetic arm online.Elmer Bastista and Quinn had me rolling when they got high in the Trans Am  They were still loaded in Deb's office.
And oh yes, the final scene was wonderful

I sure like Olmos' character. He knows the cops are onto him (and the press) and he doesn't flinch.Did anyone catch the connection between the TA Quinn was doing and Olmos' habit of dating/offing brunette girls?

mind readers..

Okay first off I liked Brian (Dexter's brother) because of course he represents Dexter's psyche.Dexter obviously needed to let go a little  The last bit about forgiving himself was a little heavy handed, perhaps some leftover from killing Brian, his wife's death and leaving Trinity's family in jeopardy? Although he could of never predicted Trinity's son would turn out that way...

Doomsday's partner's name is Travis and Professor Creepypants is most definitely going to use the sister IMO.And yes, Batista's sister will become canon fodder in some way

I liked this one, if only for the self cross examination Dexter did about his reasons for killing and his own set of morals. What I got was that he's still evolving and understanding the darker parts of why he kills.

I liked this week's episode but one thing I don't like in shows are continuity errors.

Adama cranked Travis in the face with a shovel hard enough to knock him out, yet in the next scene Travis wasn't bruised, cut, swollen...nothing.

IMHO, I think Geller is Travis' Dark Passenger. Meaning, I don't think he's real. I think Travis is the real killer. At the church Dexter didn't see Geller. Even in past episodes Travis is the only person to interact with Geller. In a past episode, in the little flea market, when Dex was following Travis and had to leave abruptly, Geller picked out the items, but told Travis to pay for them. The only person to have seen Geller so far , is Travis. I think we'll come to see that the Prof, has already met his fate with Travis.

Even in the church, the scene of Dexter looking out the window, that was a small window. That's what kinda got me thinking. Travis could have killed his own sister, in a rage, fearing she might have said something to Deb.

Teh One Who Knocks

I can see where you would get that and thinking about it, you're right as far as I can recall. I don't remember Professor Creepy interacting with anyone else besides Travis :-k

And it would explain Hal's gripe about Travis allegedly being hit in the face with the shovel, yet showing no sign of injury

In the early episodes, Travis was doing all the leg work and physical labor in the killings. Even the girl he let get away, she said that she heard voices, but the nice one was the one that let her get away. Never having interacted with the older voice.

Wow....I'm impressed. That's one hell of a speculation and it feels right.I guess he could have chained himself to the ground easily enough....everything else falls right into place

As he rode past Deb, he could have gone right home, shortly, killed her when he found out she spoke to a cop. The whole Geller hitting the shovel could have been a manifestation in his head. He might have a screw loose or split personality.

Now I have a HUGE question.

Dex and Travis enter a building. The professor (Atheist) is up a few floors.Travis waits and Dex takes the elevator and gets stuck.Within 4 minutes Dexter is out and on whatever floor (let's say 5th).There's Travis and a blood trail on the floor. How in hell did he have time to kill the guy, remove him and get an axe to open the elevator doors? Not to mention fly up 4 or 5 flights of stairs?

Teh One Who Knocks

Yeah, that didn't make a whole lot of sense to me either. Unless Travis has an accomplice :-k

Hal-9000

Because of the prosthetic arm? Maybe he's just a groupie like the chick was..

Does Quinn have a death wish?

Question - Is it just me or did Deb's therapist become another actress 2 episodes ago?

Teh One Who Knocks

He seems a little too interested in things, especially blood work like Dex does. And having the arm (and all those toys in his apt) make him just this side of creepy

Quinn is gonna get killed by someone on the force, no doubt

Also, we did see that it was indeed the commissioner that LaGuerta was talking to....so who is he trying to protect? :-k

As for the therapist, I didn't notice

Hal-9000
11-29-2011, 06:59 PM
It was the commissioner! Didn't you hear him say that if he would have known she OD'ed he wouldn't have tried CPR?

I thought for a moment him and La Guerta were going to cuddle and then she would go down on him  (best bj in Miami...)

I'm not sure on that lab tech geek guy....now that you bring it up I'm getting suspicious.

10 to 1 odds, that the captain will lose his job and Laguerta is going to slide in his place.

On a side note, I don't know if you guys watched it or not, but after the episode one of the producers from the show had a 5 minute scene where he divulged how the Geller twist was a secret to everyone except Edward Olmos and Dexter. Pretty interesting how they even showed how they purposely made the scenes look like Travis wasn't interacting with anyone. When he picked up the waitress, they showed that there was only 1 place setting on the table, and she only poured coffee to Travis and not to Geller. In hindsight, They went out of their way to show that Geller wasn't real.

Deb and Dex's supposed love thingy - thumbs down
La Guerta making her play by using Deb - thumbs down
Tom Hank's son getting the jump on Dex - thumbs down

I like that Dex made his own tableau to draw out DDK...if it was me I would have skinned Edward James Olmos and worn him for a little visit to Travis
Loved how Dex saved the police station and also how Batista almost died with Quinn busting in to save him.

One curious thing that Lance picked up on, the nerdy sidekick guy of Vince's doing something creepy with the prosthetic hand.I wonder why he mailed it to Dex after painting on the lifelines etc?

It was little strange showing Dexter escaping from Travis' lake of fire...it would have been a good spot to end the episode. They must be gearing up for a hell of a season ender..

Teh One Who Knocks

Yeah, we were all wrong (so far) guessing that Batista's sister would be dead this season (although who knows what will happen in the finale). My guess is that Travis goes after Deb maybe? Seeing as how he tried to target her with the Wormwood attack and he seemed kinda pissed when his helper failed and no cops were killed. :-k

I have to say right now....spawn of Hanks never impressed me.I sense no intelligence, no overt craziness and no threat from him playing the part of Travis.Of course when YT spoiled the whole damn season that took some of the shine off of the mystery  ( kidding YT, we asked to hear it..)

IMO Olmos would have been a great serial killer

Teh One Who Knocks
12-13-2011, 10:29 PM
Yeah, that was a bit disappointing...Olmos is a much better actor and much more believable in the role of a serial killer. Even after the big reveal that Travis is the only killer and they try to make him look 'harder' than he was the whole series, he just doesn't pull it off believably.

Agreed.Travis and Gellar as a team would have been great. The surprise with Gellar already being dead was excellent IMO, too bad that when Travis was alone he turned out to be a limp fish.I was thinking maybe a better or different actor could have pulled it off, the part itself was quite interesting.

The Huffington Post | By Alex Moaba

"Dexter" is "definitely" ending after Season 8, executive producer Sara Colleton confirmed in an interview with TV Guide.

When Showtime's serial killer thriller was renewed for two more seasons mid-way through Season 6, it was widely assumed that episode order would be its closing run. But Showtime president David Nevins left his options open, telling Deadline.com at the time of the renewal, “I’m not going to say with absolute certainty that this is the end, but that is the likely scenario, that the series is moving towards a definite end.”

Now, Colleton has moved the end-game a step closer. "This was definite," she clarified. "We wanted to end it this year, but the network convinced us that it would be best to do it in two years. In some ways, this is a two-season series-ender. We have worked that out and know where it's going to end. Next year will definitely be the last year of 'Dexter.' Absolutely."

With Showtime pot comedy "Weeds" also slated to end after its upcoming eighth season, the premium network is entering something of a transitional period.

"There were two shows, 'Weeds' and 'Dexter,' that really got Showtime taken seriously for cutting-edge original programming," Nevins recently told EW. "How they get brought home is really important."

Okay so the polls are open :)

1. He gets caught.
2. He gets caught by Deb.
3. He gets caught by Deb and she kills him.
4. He gets caught by Deb and he kills her. (last scene of the series is Dex dumping her cut up body parts at sunset off his boat)
5. He dies. (natural causes)
6. He gets caught, put on death row and last scene is a lethal injection.
7. Dexter is caught, then it appears he dies in a fiery explosion, last scene is Dex emerging from the water/smoke/debris and smiling devilishly.

funny coincidence...one of my dental receptionists looks quite a bit like Deb (except she's hotter with killer front teeth) so I keep teasing her.

she's never seen Dexter but her coworkers all have watched and they agree she looks like Deb's sister.....then I added that Deb swears like a truck driver

They certainly didn't hedge.....Deb saw him and he admits that he's a serial killer in the last 5 minutes of the episode. Not sure how they're going to get around that for the rest of the season

and yes, that intern is twisted....what did he do to one of Dexter's online accounts? Looks like he closed it or canceled it?

He closed one of his bank/credit card accounts.

We only saw him canceling one of the credit cards, but it did show he had a whole list of them, so I assume he canceled them all as evidenced at the beginning when Dex was trying to buy gas and all his cards were declined.

I'm confused as to where the arm from the Ice Truck killer case disappeared to between last season and when Deb had it on display with everything else she found in the season premiere. Travis opened it up last season when he thought Dexter was dead and he left it right on the kitchen counter. It wasn't seen again until the premiere. I can't believe that Dexter didn't see it or the nanny didn't find it and ask Dexter about it?

wasn't the chain of events -

hot intern steals it, Masuka tells her to eBay it...she does and Lewis buys it (?) , then Lewis sends to Dex.....then Travis discovers it and leaves it out? Wouldn't have Dex packed it away at that point?

Yes, but when Travis left it out is the same time he's eating from a box of Cheerios and spilling a bunch on the floor. Next time we see Dexter at home, the nanny is sweeping up the Cheerios but didnn't mention the hand nor is it ever brought up again until the premiere when Deb has it on display.

Plus, if Dexter had seen it, why wouldn't he have tried to get it back to evidence or find out how it ended up at his house? He would have known what it was the minute he saw it.

Hal-9000
10-08-2012, 05:32 PM
Yeah there's a blind spot in that chain of events...I don't think Dex ever saw it after it was delivered to his house.

Maybe Lewis is dating nanny, he sees it when he's over there and somehow hides it?

You may have to join a Dexter forum to find out. I was unsure about 5 minutes of Breaking Bad and there's freaks out there who memorize every second

So Deb seemed to go from denial to acceptance in a hurry :-k

I can't wait to see what kinds of crazy Lewis is gonna turn out to be this season. He put up quite the performance pretending to be all afraid of Dex when he was confronted in his own apartment and then he turns up at Dex's place later on. The look on Dexter's face was awesome when he saw Lewis

Deb loves Dexter :)

She either has to prosecute him or accept....and I think she said something about how that would reflect on her if her brother, a member of the Miami police dept was the Bay Harbor Butcher.

No way, Dex has always been awkward around women, at best. He was in love with Lumen yet he never exhibited anything like he did in that kill room scene last night with some random killer that just happens to be attractive. Completely out of character IMO.

And this season, which started out awesome, devolved into average at best, and then to me completely Fonzied it up last night :|

I don't know Lance...I rewatched the episode and the scenes between him and Hannah are pretty sex charged. She stalks him and comes to his place and gives him the plant....that whole scene is double entendres and tension. Also when Dex says - I WANNA TAKE YOU OUT :x He meant kill her and she assumed on a date. I think they were trying to show that Dexter is confused. In the final scene he's trying to threaten her and she responds - Do what ya gotta do...I think he liked that.

Also the scene with him and Deb when Deb remembers the girl with the weird name (Lumen) and puts together that her Dex were killing together. A form of foreshadowing I think...

He finds a girl like him who's hot and he can speak to about their...urges. I think it was daring of them to have Deb say that she was in love with him. Another level of demented relationships. Even his relationship with Isaac is getting creepy

I'd assume that it was just waaaaaaay over peppered/spiced because I doubt there was anything spice-wise in the kitchen she could have used to poison him without him seeing. Plus, she was playing with what looked like a jar of some kind of herb/spice just before she had the idea to cook.

When Deb found Hannah hurt, I thought that was an amazing scene. She knows that Hannah is a killer and that she's seeing the man Deb loves...and she still saved her life.

As Hannah mentioned, Deb could have easily let her die or help her get there quicker, but the character of Deborah Morgan is too moralistic to let that happen. Good writing and sense of the characters

I can't believe that LaGuerta has the ex-Chief on board with her theory of Dexter being the Bay Harbor Butcher. He was adamant that it wasn't Dex and then in the same episode he changed his mind to think that Dex should be questioned. maybe I shouldn't say he was actually on board with her whole theory, but he was going to go thru with the questioning of Dex anyway.

Okay, I have been hard on the show this season, but this last episode was one of, if not the season's best.

Never saw it coming when Dex was about to off the last guy responsible for his mother's death and the guy blurts out that it was the Miami Metro Captain (LaGuerta) behind his getting paroled. Man, what an awesome twist, especially since Matthews made it sound like the investigation into Dex being the Bay Harbor Butcher was closed.

With Hannah supposedly being in love with Dexter, it makes no sense that she would try and kill Deb (the Miami Metro homicide lieutenant) instead of her worthless friend that is the witness to the murder. She had to know that Dex would dig into the accident and find out that Deb was poisoned and that it would ultimately lead back to her.

Maybe she did drug herself....me and the girlie both wondered how someone could drink water laced that much with ground up pills and not taste it?
