HANSFORD, WV (WCHS/WVAH) —

A Hansford woman said she stopped a man from stealing her belongings by holding him on the ground until police arrived.

Sarah Kessick said she pulled into her driveway Tuesday as a man was walking from her house. Kessick said the man, identified by Kanawha County deputies as Travis Hudnall, 31, of Paint Creek, was carrying her chain saw.

Kessick told her four kids, who were in the vehicle, to lock the door while she confronted the man. She said she chased the man and started hitting him, then held him on the ground until deputies could get there, minutes after she called 911.

Below is audio from the 911 call:

"Instinct kicked in, and I was like, 'Guys lock the doors!' I went and chased him. I still had my phone in my hand," Kessick said. "He fell to the ground and he said, 'I got a gun', and it fell between his legs."

When Kessick saw the gun, she knew she had to keep it away from him.

"I grabbed the chain saw he had and started hitting him with it, " she said.

Deputies said the suspect also had been inside Kessick's home. Kessick said the chain saw, tablet and gun the suspect had were all hers.

Kessick said that wasn't the only thing she said he helped himself to at her residence.

"He was in my fridge and everything. I was like, 'Eww!' " she said.

Kessick said the only thing she was protecting was what was hers.

"Hopefully, he never messes with me again. I knew if I let him go, he would have done it again," she said.

Kanawha County deputies said Hudnall is charged with burglary.
