DNA science — and just how far jurors could trust it — was the focus of testimony Wednesday in the trial of a man accused of a fatal restaurant shooting.

Devin Hall is on trial charged with the execution-style murder of 23-year-old Jeffrey Lau at a Stafford Street Salisbury House restaurant on Sept. 27, 2012. He is charged with an additional count of attempted murder for shooting a second man at the restaurant.

Police seized 19 shell casings, a handgun, T-shirt and gloves following the shooting.

While no usable fingerprints or DNA was found on the shell casings and gun, DNA matching Hall's DNA profile was found on the T-shirt and gloves, jurors were told.

RCMP DNA expert Michelle Mascioli said the chances one of the DNA samples came from someone other than Hall was as high as one in 4.2 quadrillion.

But that doesn't mean it's Hall's DNA on the items, said defence lawyer Martin Glazer.

"In terms of a match, there's no such thing as an absolute match in DNA science," Glazer asked Mascioli.
