From stacking Cheerios on babies to dancing the Running Man to a '90s hip hop track, barely a week goes by when a challenge doesn't sweep the internet.
But the latest bizarre contest, labelled the Panty Challenge, which encourages women to share pictures of their clean underwear has caused uproar on social media.
The challenge was apparently laid down by Brittany Hunter from Atlanta, Georgia, who shared a snap of her clean underwear on Facebook, followed by a video.
In a strongly worded rant, she declared: 'I just want to show some panties I wore before, a whole day. There was no stains on them.'
She suggested that other women were jealous as they end up with stained underwear due to vaginal discharge.
It led to the hashtag 'pantychallenge' trending on Twitter, where women and men alike were outraged by her comments.
TheSoundDefense tweeted: 'So apparently the #pantychallenge is a thing because people want to once again shame women into thinking healthy bodies are gross as hell.'
Milkpopblog said it was just another example of shaming women for something that's a perfectly normal bodily function.
'Can we have, like, five minutes where we don't shame the perfectly normal, healthy bodies of women because that would be A+,' she appealed.
VEGGytale argued that it was an example of women holding others back.

'Like I keep saying, self-hate is so real,' she said. 'This #pantychallenge is women with internalised misogyny participating in their own oppression.'
Meanwhile, erinselb described the challenge as 'awful'.
'Once again making girls feel bad about being healthy,' she said.
Annie Thrasher advised that anyone who doesn't experience normal discharge should visit a gynaecologist.
'Baby girl if your panties have been dry all day please go to your OBGYN,' she wrote.
'Something is wrong. moisture and discharge are normal.'
To prove the same point, Babe Ruthless even posted a photo of her own stained underwear.
'Discharge is great. I can tell where abouts I am during my cycle by looking at my knickers,' she said.

Bryonosaurusrex said the most disgusting factor was the use of the word 'panty'.
She added: 'That and the misogyny.'
Gorgeous Lala branded the whole thing stupid.
'Most women have some type of moisture through out the day,' she said. 'Hello?! It's called sweat or discharge.'
Jessica_Finegan summed up the ridiculous nature of the whole thing by commenting: 'Why do these girls think pretending online that they don't get discharge makes them better than other girls?'
