It's not often you see grown women and men breaking a sweat in the dead of winter in Canberra.
But 20 brave souls did exactly that as they hoed into some scorching hot chillies - all in the hope of being crowned the winner of Canberra's chilli eating competition.
Armed with litres of milk for temptation, they chowed down on chillies that got progressively hotter.
The inaugural event was held in conjunction with Canberra's weekend-long World Curry Festival.
Crowds watched on to see if the contestants could handle the heat.
The rules were simple: if the contestants took a sip of milk, regurgitated, passed out or called an ambulance, they were disqualified.

One-by-one the seasoned pepper eaters started to fall to the might of the jalapeno, the cayenne pepper, the habanero and the Trinidad Scorpion.
But in the dying minutes, there were only two chilli chompers left standing.
Joint winners Will Jiang and Eric O'Brien could not be separated, even after eating a total of four Carolina Reapers, considered the world's hottest chilli.
Mr Jiang said he barely worked up a sweat.
"I've been eating chillies all my life, from about five years old," he said.
Mr O'Brien said he usually put about five habenero chillies in the chicken curry he cooked once a week.
"There's no trade secret, you just get used to it," he said.
Both men won a $100 voucher to a local bar, while the losers received a glass of milk and a pat on the back.
