The Apollo 11 mission which successfully took man to the moon for the first time ever was a FAKE say more than HALF of British adults.

The astonishing revelation that 52% of people in the UK believe that Neil Armstrong's 'one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind' speech was recorded somewhere on EARTH comes as the mission's 47th anniversary is celebrated on July 20.

Among those marking the day is former astronaut Buzz Aldrin, Neil's fellow moonwalker on the mission.

But despite the first person accounts from he and the late Armstrong, who passed away in 2012, more than half of British adults who responded to a new survey think it's a conspiracy.

And that's not the only doubt that was exposed in the new research.

Nearly two-thirds (64%) of adults don’t believe that dinosaurs existed - and one in 10 people apparently believe in the Loch Ness Monster.

Online mobile retailer e2save surveyed UK adults and found that many people believe in the supernatural, and even more doubted some of the biggest moments in history.

Despite being televised live in 1969, over half (52%) of adults believe that the Apollo 11 moon landing was a hoax.

The survey quizzed more than 1003 UK adults aged 18+ in partnership with Atomik Research.

Those aged 25-34 are the most sceptical, with 73% believing we didn’t land on the moon, compared to 38% of those aged 55+, who were actually alive for the event.

While the moon landing might be in doubt, there are some people who do believe in a world beyond our planet, as nearly a quarter (24%) believe in extraterrestrials.

Seemingly fossil evidence does not sway people either, as nearly two-thirds (64%) do not believe that dinosaurs once roamed our planet.

While 5% do believe that dragons existed - too much Game of Throne, perhaps.

People are also more inclined to believe in the existence of ghosts and spirits than God (30% vs 29%). And women lean more towards the occult than men, with almost double the amount believing in spirits (38% vs 21%).

And with a reported 1,079 sightings, the Loch Ness Monster is a definite for one in 10 (10%) adults.

e2save has teamed up with Sony using “cutting-edge” image-enhancement technology to show what the photos of such events would look like if taken with a Xperia series of 4K smartphones at If Only It Was 4K .

Abby Francis, spokesperson at e2save, said: “Did we really land on the moon? Do extraterrestrials really exist?

“With the Xperia smartphones you can capture the world in incredible high-resolution 4K, and we wanted to put the technology to the test by uncovering the truth behind top conspiracies, all with a tongue and cheek approach.

“Surprisingly, many people are suspicious of events that are an accepted part of our history, and a lot more people believe in the world of the occult than we expected. Perhaps such believers should take a look at ‘If Only It Was 4K’ - it might help to clear up a few things!”
