A man carrying explosives was killed in a German city after his device detonated injuring ten people near a music festival.
German police said up to a dozen people were affected by the blast at a wine bar in the Bavarian city of Ansbach at about 10 p.m. on Monday, local time.
"A man, according to our currently knowledge, the perpetrator, died" in the explosion, Ansbach police said in a statement.
Originally believed to be a gas explosion, the Ansbach mayor Carda Seidel said the blast was set off by a device, German newspaper Nordbayern reported.
“At present we assume it is not an accident,” a spokesman for the Bavarian interior minister told reporters.
The explosion happened near the entrance to the Ansbach Open, a three-day music festival nearby. The open air-festival was canceled as a precaution after the explosion, with up to 2,500 visitors evacuated from the concerts.
Germany is on edge after a deadly rampage at a Munich mall on Friday in which nine people were killed and an ax attack on a train near Wuerzburg last Monday in which five people were wounded.
Ansbach police could not be reached for comment.
