The public face of the Democratic National Convention has been one of disharmony and protest but once the gavel has fallen it's been a very different scene.

For Daily Mail Online can exclusively disclose that the party's divided supporters have at least heeded calls for unity - in the bedroom.

Analysis provided by leading 'hookup' apps Tinder and Grindr has revealed a massive spike in activity coinciding with this week's convention in Philadelphia.

The number of people using gay dating tool Grindr shot up by 148 per cent in the vicinity of the Wells Fargo Center, where the Democrats gathered to officially nominate Hillary Clinton for President.

Technicians for the GPS-based app said they were confident the surge was attributed to the convention itself, which has drawn around 6,000 delegates over four-days.

Their data reveals that 57 per cent of those logging on to find love were newcomers to the South Philadelphia area and the average age was 31.

There was a higher proportion of black, Latino and mixed-ethnicity men than usual, coming from as far afield as Canada, the UK, Germany, Greece, Poland, Finland, Saudi Arabia and Guam.

Among the thousands of raunchy messages exchanged, there were 29 mentions of the DNC - but just three uses of the word Hillary.

'Looking at comparable bubbles around the country - Times Square, Disney Land, Trump Tower in Las Vegas - we don't see an increase that even approaches these levels,' concluded an analyst for Grindr, which has two million active users every day worldwide.

Bed-swapping Dems also accounted for a 54 per cent increase in the number of people using Tinder in Philadelphia this week.

The wildly popular matchmaking app presents users with a succession of photos and lets them swipe left or right to indicate whether or not they like each profile.

If two people vote yes to one another they are able to chat and arrange a date offline.

'You only had to take a look at the number of people staring down at their phones to see that something was going on,' dished a convention insider.

'Rather helpfully there are novelty DNC condoms on sale outside the Wells Fargo Center. Nobody wants to wake up the next day ''feeling the Bern''.'

Daily Mail Online has also obtained data for last week's Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio.

Grindr use saw less of a spike around the Quicken Loans Arena but it still rose to the occasion by 66 per cent.

Messages contained 27 mentions of RNC and six referred to Donald Trump. New users popped up from Norway, Russia, Hong Kong and Australia.

Tinder use, meanwhile, rocketed by 82 per cent in Cleveland compared to the previous week as attendees had a Grand Old Party between the sheets.

'Both political parties promise to bring people together - but Tinder is actually delivering,' said a Tinder spokesman.

'Whether you're on the right or left, people are swiping both directions on Tinder at the conventions.'
