PORT ARTHUR, Texas (KFDM/WKRC) - A Jefferson County grand jury indicted a man after investigators say he broke into a historic Port Arthur home, took off all of his clothes and was naked and drinking Pina Colada mix.

They tell KFDM the grand jury indicted James Duke Vanwright, 50, on a charge of burglary of a habitation.

According to investigators, at about 11 p.m. on July 12, a Lamar security officer found the suspect inside White Haven, a home on Lakeshore Drive owned by Lamar State College-Port Arthur.

They say he'd broken in and was naked. Prosecutors tell us Vanwright admitted taking a bottle filled with Pina Colada mix from the refrigerator and drinking it.

Investigators say Vanwright told officers his family had left him the home.

Prosecutors say because of prior convictions for sexual assault of a child and attempted arson, Vanwright could face up to life in prison on enhanced punishment for the Second Degree Felony of burglary of a habitation.

PROBABLE CAUSE AFFIDAVIT:

On 7/12/16 at 22:03 hours, Affiant was dispatched to 2545 Lakeshore Drive at the Lamar State College-Port Arthur White Haven residence to an alarm. While en route to the location, the complainant, Lamar security David Collazo, arrived at the location and told dispatch there were lights on inside the residence that are not normally left on. Complainant later advised there was a naked man inside the residence. Upon arrival, Affiant could see thru the kitchen window and observed the suspect, identified as James Vanwright (7/9/66), drinking from a larger bottle. Affiant entered thru the door where the suspect was standing naked. Affiant placed the suspect under arrest and placed him in a market patrol unit. The suspect forced entry into the residence by breaking a window pane to the kitchen door and unlocking it from the inside. Once inside the suspect removed a pina colada mix bottle from the refrigerator and was drinking it. The suspect confirmed he took the bottle from inside the refrigerator in the residence. The suspect's clothes were later located in a bedroom. Complainant advised he did wish to file charges on the suspect. The suspect was transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility for book-in procedures. Once at the jail, the staff advised he needed medical clearance because his wrist was swollen. The suspect was transported to St. Mary Hospital for medical clearance. Once medically cleared the suspect was transported back to jail where he was booked in for Burglary of a Habitation-F2. This offense occurred in the city limits of Port Arthur, Jefferson County, Texas.
