A man was filmed holding on to the hood of a moving car in Leicester, England as he attempted to smash its windscreen during a bizarre aggressive outburst.

An eyewitness captured the episode along Burley’s Way in Leicester city on Thursday in which a man apparently jumped onto a car bonnet before shouting and punching the driver’s windscreen.

The motorist tried to displace the enraged man by driving forward but, undeterred, his aggressive meltdown continued.

Dissatisfied with the impact of his actions thus far, the man then allegedly punched other vehicles nearby before police arrived and arrested him.

The road was temporarily shut down in response to the incident and several police officers were deployed to the scene to arrest the man on suspicion of criminal damage and assault.

Leicester police said they took the man to hospital where he was treated for his injuries, before being returned to police custody. No one else was injured, according to police.

An angry man who clung onto the bonnet of a moving car and punched the windscreen had drunk a litre and a half of vodka, a court heard.

Michael McCabe, 37, left commuters in a state of disbelief as he allegedly screamed racist abuse at the male driver of the convertible in broad daylight.

Appearing in Leicester Magistrates Court yesterday, McCabe pleaded guilty to racially aggravated criminal damage of a silver Mercedes car.

He also admitted causing criminal damage to a blue BMW and a silver Jaguar S-type as well as a charge of resisting arrest.

Dramatic footage of the angry confrontation on St Margaret’s Way in Leicester was caught on camera and posted on Twitter by a BBC online producer.

Bystanders said that McCabe climbed out of the car as it waited at traffic lights.

Witnesses claimed that the driver seemed unfazed by the threatening behaviour of his passenger and drove slowly down the dual-carriageway.

The 37-year-old, who has previous convictions for violence and criminal damage, gave his address as the Bradgate Mental Health Unit at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester.

Chris Swistak, defending, said McCabe suffered from depression, anxiety and a personality disorder.

He added: "He is in bad place in his life at the moment. He is desperate to get help.'

Following his appearance, magistrates granted McCabe conditional bail until his sentencing at a later date.

A condition of the bail is that he must live where he is told to by the Leicestershire NHS Mental Health department.

I've punched and put dents in the quarter panels of cars that were illegally parked in handicapped parking spots while I was away at college back in the 90s. They had a parking department that wouldn't enforce the law, so I had to take matters into my own hands.

After a while, I became so frustrated that one night when I found a car parked illegally in a handicapped parking spot, I slashed their tires, dented their hood and quarter panels, and broke their tail lights. I had considered busting their windshield but decided enough was enough. The parking department started enforcing the law not long after that. I don't know what happened to the student who owned that car, or the car itself. I figured if I inquired about it then it would be an admission of felony destruction of property, so I kept mum about it.

But the parking department got the message.

I had a really bad day that day, but I ended up sleeping exceedingly well that night. The best I had slept in months.

Today? Sure. In the 90s, back when it actually happened, maybe... maybe not. Keep in mind, back then I was young (still only 22-23), still very much in good fighting shape (at least where my upper body was concerned), I never backed down from a fight, and I was armed. I had a knife on me and I had a baseball bat on me. I was beyond pissed off, which back then made me even more aggressive than I was when I wasn't angry. I was a naturally aggressive person back in the day. Friends used to tell me that I could be very scary and, if I wasn't careful, I was gonna roll up on the wrong person and get shot. I've chilled out a great deal since then. Today, I'm a naturally laid back person. If I get pissed off, it just wears me out. I get tired and I just want to chill and relax. I do everything in my power to try to avoid confrontation now. Back in the 80s and 90s, if I got pissed off, I wanted somebody to start shit with me. I wanted to fight.
