SEATTLE -- A bar in Seattle’s Capitol Hill is taking action against predators by handing out "date rape drug" testing kits to customers.
“I hate the fact there are predators out there going around and drugging people, “ said Ian Carey, owner of Bar Sue.
On Monday, Carey began handing out the simple kits to his customers after the area began to see a rise in people getting their drinks spiked, including Carey himself.
“Two months ago, I had a friend I was with and I left a drink with her, went outside and came back,” said Carey. “I assume someone thought it was her drink, because 30 minutes later I just blacked out.”

The Seattle Police Department has been working and training clubs in the area, but Carey decided to take a proactive choice by purchasing the cards himself to give out for free.
Each card allows a person to test for two of the most common date rape drugs: GHB (Gamma Hydroxybutyrate) and Ketamine. Customers put a drop of their drink on the “A” and “B” dots, and if the dots turn blue, then it is positive test and your drink has likely been drugged.
“If I can get a negative result on every test, then we are doing our job right,” said Carey. “Hopefully, we can tackle this before it becomes a much bigger problem.”
Carey says he has spoke to several bar owners and managers. The goal is to have the testing kits available at all clubs in Capitol Hill.
