CHARLESTON, W.Va. — As a pharmaceutical company run by U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin’s daughter faces scrutiny for hiking prices on life-saving allergy injection pens, Manchin is remaining mum.

The Democratic West Virginia senator’s daughter, Heather Bresch, is CEO of Mylan, which manufactures EpiPens.

A two-dose package cost around $94 nine years ago. The cost averaged more than six times that in May.

Manchin spokesman Jonathan Kott said Wednesday the senator had no comment.

Several senators are demanding more information and requesting congressional hearings and investigations.

Sens. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut want the Federal Trade Commission to investigate Mylan for possible antitrust violations.

Hillary Clinton, whom Manchin has endorsed for president, called the increase “outrageous.”

A Mylan statement Monday cited health insurance changes with higher deductible costs for many.

So what?
Hitler was someone's child too.

The gouging is bad, competition should enter the fray, epipen is a simple adr solution, make a rival brand, sell it for 20% the cost, we keep both in house.
Destroy their profit by never buying their product again, then they'll rethink their pricing.

As long as they hold the patent, no one else can make it. Generic stuff only comes out after the original patent runs out.

How long do patents last in the US?
Epipens have been around for a very long time.

I have checked, patent ran out in 2015, despite their legal efforts to block progress.
The main rival was turned down by your FDA. The rival company expects to get to market next year.
Many other nations have alternatives already available and we do not have the same mad costings you have.

Time to look at your own agencies again me thinks. ADR is cheap as shit, a needle and activation mechanism is cheap as shit too. They do still hold patents on the safety cap and other items of the mechanical apparatus, but production of an alternative couldn't be that difficult.
