If you haven't already been scared off by the most nightmarish headline of the week, you'll soon be sufficiently creeped out.
Residents of the Fleetwood Manor Apartments in Greenwood County, S.C., reported to the local news on Wednesday that they received an ominous letter warning them that a clown may be "trying to lure children into the woods."
The letter to residents, printed with the Fleetwood Manor Apartments letterhead, says that police will be doing regular sweeps of the area. An excerpt of the letter reads:
There has [sic] been several conversation [sic] and a lot of complaints to the office regarding a clown or a person dressed in clown clothing taking children or trying to lure children in the woods. First and foremost at Fleetwood Manor Apartments childrens [sic] safety is a top priority. At no time should a child be alone at night, or walking in the roads or wooded areas at night. Also if a person or persons are seen you are to immediately call the police.
It is not explained how it could possibly matter that the person is either "a clown" or "a person dressed in clown clothing."
One resident told the local FOX affiliate that she'd seen the clown herself, complete with a quote that belongs in a Stephen King novel.
"I thought my child was seeing things," Donna Arnold told FOX Carolina. "And then the next day I had about 30 kids come up to me and say, 'Did you see the clown in the woods?"
Nope. Nope nope nope nope.
