A paedophile who was caught trying to arrange to have sex with a child said that it was all a mistake caused by his short sightedness.
Charles Lawrence III, 60, claimed that he misread a text message saying he thought the boy he was going to meet was 18, not 13.
He was sentenced on Friday for enticing a minor after being busted by undercover investigators on Grindr last year.
He was one of 10 men caught out by a sting that formed part of a reality show in the U.S., according to the Connecticut Post.
Lawyer Edward Gavin said: ‘The text he received had a one and a three which he mistook for a one and an eight.’
Lawrence added, as he was sentenced for trying to meet a schoolboy for sex, ‘I am not a paedophile’.
In conversations before the bust, Lawrence said that he would be the teenager’s sex teacher.
He was jailed for two years and will feature on Hansen vs Predator.
