In Queens, NY, during a Mets game this weekend, a man was arrested for playing music so loud that the arena's bullpen called the police to file a noise complaint. Imagine that, playing music so loud that you actually have an entire sports stadium complaining about the noise drowning out the roar of the crowd.
Nelson Hidalgo, 47, was playing music out of a van that featured 80 speakers ($20,000 worth of equipment, he explained) which he blasted at 10:45 p.m. on the intersection of 127th Street and 35th Avenue. His mini-concert apparently drew a huge crowd, but that didn't stop police from approaching Hidalgo and arresting him, Coors Light still in hand.
Despite Hidalgo's reasoning of, "I know it's illegal, but it's the weekend," he was punished and slapped with a slew of charges including second-degree criminal nuisance, general noise prohibition, disorderly conduct, and obstructing the driver's view.
It seems this wasn't Hidalgo's first time getting in trouble for playing music too loud. "How come I don't get a ticket this time? I usually get a ticket or it gets thrown out, or I pay a little fee," Hidalgo explained, the report says, regarding the charges. Regardless of the multiple charges, he was released without bail on the promise to return to court on August 1st.
The Mets lost that hometown game to the Atlanta Braves.
