Two New Hampshire mothers will face child endangerment charges after they were arrested Monday night while drunk in a mall parking lot, too intoxicated to care for their months-old babies, police said.
A Salem, N.H., police officer was working a detail at a shopping mall when he found the two drunk women, Salem police said in a statement. One of the women was in a puddle, holding a baby above her head.
“Officers noticed that the females were barely able to stand, let alone care for the infants,” the statement said.
After speaking with the women, the officer learned they were the biological mothers of the two babies they were with: a 1-month-old and a 4-month-old.
Baylie Lecolst, 22, of Salem, N.H., and Amber Giordano, 24, of Hampstead, N.H., were both released on personal recognizance and will be arraigned Oct. 31 in the 10th Circuit Court District Division in Salem, police said.
Investigators will work with the New Hampshire Department of Children, Youth, and Families to follow up on the case.
Both children were given to family members, police said.
