On Wednesday, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) accused employees at Reddit of actively trying to hide deleted Reddit posts allegedly made by a Clinton employee inquiring on how to strip email addresses out of Clinton’s archived emails.
“There’s still an ongoing interest by Congress, and only in spite of Reddit’s own senior, what they call ‘special flak team’ trying to hide it,” Issa said in a hearing in reference to the deleted Reddit posts. “Only because a few people caught it do we even know about it and is this and other committees interested in getting the back ups that may exist on these deletions.”
In 2014, a Redditor by the name of stonetear — who was later revealed to be Clinton’s private computer specialist, Paul Combetta — made a post asking how to scrub archived email messages for an undisclosed “VERY VIP” customer.
Here’s the original thread:
I may be facing a very interesting situation where I need to strip out a VIP’s (VERY VIP) email address from a bunch of archived email that I have both in a live Exchange mailbox, as well as a PST file. Basically, they don’t want the VIP’s email address exposed to anyone, and want to be able to either strip out or replace the email address in the to/from fields in all of the emails we want to send out.
Combetta may have made other posts pertinent to the investigation, but he began deleting them all once he realized he had been found out. Issa is now accusing Reddit admins of impeding investigators who are trying to get access to these deleted posts.
The social news site is owned by Conde Nast, the editorial director of which, Anna Wintour, picks Hillary’s outfits.
Reddit and Conde Nast did not return requests for comment by publication time.
