NEW CASTLE, Pa. —Emergency crews rushed to an apartment fire in New Castle Saturday morning.

Assistant Fire Chief David Joseph said a man was in the laundry room of an apartment in the 200 block of West Lincoln Avenue when he heard a commotion upstairs.

When he got to the second floor, it was full of smoke.

The man rescued his 3-year-old daughter and went back inside for his 4-year-old son.

Joseph said the man was burned on his hand during the rescue. He was treated at the scene.

The two children were unharmed.

When the father was asked what he believed started the fire, he said his son had a habit of using a lighter to set things on fire.

The mother was at work at the time of the fire and another child with the grandparents.

The Red Cross was called to assist the family.
