Authorities were searching for four suspects after four teenage students were shot in the shared parking lot of two San Francisco high schools Tuesday, and one of the students was in critical condition, police said.
San Francisco Police Officer Carlos Manfredi said the shooting occurred at around 3:20 p.m. as students were being dismissed for the day from June Jordan School for Equity and City Arts and Technology High School, which share a campus.
Three of the victims ran inside the school, and police initially ordered students to stay in place until police searched each room and determined it was not an active shooter situation. A fourth victim hurt in the shooting went to a hospital, Manfredi said.
"One female victim has life-threatening injuries to her upper torso," he said.
San Francisco school officials said two boys suffered non-life threatening injuries and a third boy walked into a police station with gunshot wound.
Police were searching for four males in connection to the shooting, Manfredi said. They were last seen running away from the area in dark hoodies and jeans.
The shooters seemed to have targeted the female student, said Karwin Sui, a spokeswoman for the San Francisco Unified School District.
According to KTVU, police said classes would still be held at June Jordan Wednesday and that grief counselors would be available to students.
