Nobody wants to eat a cold McDonald’s, but few of us are prepared to go to these lengths to make sure it stays warm.

Lee Rutherford was caught going at 129mph along the A189 in Blyth, Northumberland, after stopping at a drive-thru in February.

Police followed the 32 in his modified Renault Clio, clocking up some incredible speeds.

When asked what the rush was he said he wanted to get home and eat his burger and chips while they were still warm.

He admitted making a false statement to obtain insurance and was found guilty of dangerous driving.

He was given a 20-week prison sentence suspended for a year, banned from driving and ordered to take an extended driving test. He was also ordered to pay £1,120 in fines and costs.

Kyle Patterson, defending Rutherford, told Bedlington Magistrates’ Court: ‘His driving at such a speed was because he’d been to McDonald’s and he wanted his food to still be hot by the time he got home.’

He added that driving at such speeds was ‘just daft’.

He said: ‘It’s a lad in a high-powered car who sees an open road in front of him at a clear time of day and he puts his foot down.’

Prosecutor Lynne Russell said: ‘Taking into account the conditions, the officer felt the
standard of driving fell far below the standard of a competent driver in those conditions.’

Rutherford had also failed to tell his insurance company that the hatchback had been modified. The modifications included a new air filter and adjustments to the exhaust.

Rutherford bought the car so he could learn how to drive and has held a licence for under two years.

The court heard he has a previous conviction, in 2004, for a drink driving offence. He has since sold the Clio.

Magistrate David Gunn said: ‘The most serious offence is the dangerous driving. We’d say it was excessive speed, in particularly in relation to the conditions on a wet road.’

Mr Gunn said magistrates considered sending Rutherford to prison straight

over here, you aren't covered by your insurance company if you've modified your vehicle without informing them

Does anyone else have this issue where you've got your meal ready to go, drink in hand, but you can't start watching until you've found something good to watch on tv and are really settled into a comfortable seating position

I feel like this guy really just needed to get home and have his moment of bliss before devouring his Mcdick's
