The Chicago City Council, which is known across the country for such impressive feats as “taking down a sign that said Donald Trump’s name,” recently found out that ethics rules bar them from jumping the line to purchase Chicago Cubs World Series tickets at face value, while regular Chicagoans have to shell out thousands for the sold-out seats on StubHub.

Even though they’ve been given tickets before (for the NLCS and for Cubs home games), the offer of face-value World Series tickets was ruled, Friday, as a “prohibited gift.” And entitled lawmakers were quick to literally whine on the council floor that they were being deprived of something they richly deserved.

Milly Santiago (31st) said she’s &#39;a poor alderman&#39; who can’t afford to pay thousands of dollars for Cubs tickets...&quot; <a href="https://t.co/ZqPhXSdo6z">pic.twitter.com/ZqPhXSdo6z</a></p>&mdash; Bob (@DoHoBOB) <a href="https://twitter.com/DoHoBOB/status/791650807615594496">October 27, 2016</a></blockquote>

Ald. Milly Santiago makes more than $100,000 per year. And she can certainly buy tickets, just on the secondary market, where tickets are going for $1,000 each for standing room only (Wrigley Field is pretty small).

But the aldermen insisted that the tickets were no special perk — because they were in the upper deck at Wrigley Field.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Aldermen are still angry they can no longer buy Cubs playoff tickets that aren’t otherwise available for public sale <a href="https://t.co/b5GfisJ9Ho">https://t.co/b5GfisJ9Ho</a> <a href="https://t.co/irjryZf1px">pic.twitter.com/irjryZf1px</a></p>&mdash; Chicago Tribune (@chicagotribune) <a href="https://twitter.com/chicagotribune/status/791681383773208576">October 27, 2016</a></blockquote>

Some compared their plight to the world’s impoverished.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Chicago aldermen do themselves no favors griping about losing their perk to buy Cubs&#39; playoff tickets at face value. <a href="https://t.co/sALrTjoI9G">https://t.co/sALrTjoI9G</a> <a href="https://t.co/G11hiPNbYT">pic.twitter.com/G11hiPNbYT</a></p>&mdash; Chicago Sun-Times (@Suntimes) <a href="https://twitter.com/Suntimes/status/791399743830327297">October 26, 2016</a></blockquote>

Meanwhile, Chicago residents who just want to hang out near Wrigley Field are being asked to shell out up to $500 just to sit in nearby bars during game 3 of the World Series, tomorrow.

I actually agree with the alderman. The Cubs offered face value tickets. They would be paying for them out of their own pocket. So what.
