Californians rejected a law which would have tightened regulations requiring porn stars working in the state to wear condoms while filming.

Voters turned against Proposition 60 by around 54% to 46% after a concerted campaign by the adult entertainment industry to stop the initiative.

The new law would have added harsher enforcement to existing legislation from 1992, which already required condoms to be used on set.

It would have let anybody in the state launch a legal claim against porn producers if they could point to footage which did not show a “visible condom”.

Actresses complained that the law would have been a government intrusion into their health – and also their privacy, as filing a lawsuit could result in actresses’ addresses being handed over to members of the public.

Porn stars took to social media to rally their fanbase behind the #NoProp60 campaign.

Major porn sites also got in on the action, by blocking access to all Californians for a day last month.

The ballot was carried out at the same time as the presidential election which saw Donald Trump triumph, and reported its results several hours later.

Many Hillary-supporting porn stars were left with mixed feelings as they won a battle within their own industry, but saw their favored candidate lose the war.
