CONNERSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - A 21-year-old Amish man is facing charges after he allegedly confessed to sending video messages, naked pictures and lewd text messages to a 12-year-old girl.
“I was sickened,” the mother of the alleged victim told 24 Hour News 8’s Brad Edwards. “I was sickened that somebody was sending this stuff to a child.”
She alarmed Connersville Police that her daughter got a strange text message from an unknown number. The girl gave her mother the phone who then continued to text the man.
Police say the man then identified himself as a 21-year-old Amish man and asked the girl for pictures and tried to set up a rendez-vous so the two could have sex. That’s when the mom turned the phone over to police.
Detectives discovered more that 600 messages had been exchanged between the two.
Connersville Police and Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies formulated a plan for the man to meet an undercover officer. Officers set up their operation in Milroy and the undercover officer continued to text the man.
Then, around 10 p.m. last Wednesday, the suspect arrived in a one horse carriage as he said he would.
Police identified the suspect as 21-year-old Willard Yoder. Officers say he confessed in a video taped interview.
Yoder is charged with child solicitation.
“We have always discussed with our kids that they can come to us with anything and she did that,” said the mother. “She [the daughter] is the hero in all of this.”
