Smell what’s cooking in 2020? Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has said he’s considering running for President one day.
The actor, who has previously hinted at a future in politics, was asked if he might be a future candidate for the White House after former reality star Donald Trump’s surprise victory in the presidential election on Tuesday, November 8.
“I wouldn’t rule it out,” the former pro wrestler told Vanity Fair while promoting his new animated movie Moana in Los Angeles on Sunday. “It would be a great opportunity to help people, so it’s possible. This past election shows that anything can happen,” he added.
Johnson, who has been busy filming the Jumanji remake with Kevin Hart and Nick Jonas in Hawaii, previously addressed speculation he’s considering a career change into politics with British GQ in June.
“I can’t deny that the thought of being governor, the thought of being president, is alluring. And beyond that, it would be an opportunity to make a real impact on people’s lives on a global scale,” the 44-year-old said.
In May, the Ballers star retweeted an Independent Journal Review article urging him to run for president, writing: “Maybe one day. Surely the White House has a spot for my pick up truck.”
If he threw his hat in the ring, the former WWE superstar would be following in the footsteps of other Hollywood and wrestling stars who have successfully run for public office. Terminator actor Arnold Schwarzenegger served as California’s Republican governor, Ronald Reagan moved from the Hollywood B-list to the California Governor’s office before going on to win the White House, while former pro wrestler and actor Jesse Ventura was elected Governor of Minnesota in 1999.
