A man allegedly stabbed his dad in the neck after learning that his father wanted to conduct a home circumcision on him - at the age of 20.
Alex Fultz was arrested on a charge of attempted felony murder.
Fultz told police he was angry because his father wanted to cut the foreskin on Fultz's penis, according to a police report.
The parent wanted to take his son to a urologist.
Fultz's father was said to be asleep on a sofa in his bedroom when Fultz entered the room with a knife and stabbed his father in the neck.
Police said Fultz, of South Florida, USA, then dropped the knife and left while the father was flown to Jackson South Community Hospital, Local 10 reports.
Police said officers later saw Fultz walking towards them with both of his hands raised in the air, according to the broadcaster.
"Don't shoot. Don't shoot," Fultz told the officers, the police report said.
"I'm the one who stabbed my dad."
Fultz has been diagnosed as schizophrenic, bipolar and autistic, police said and was being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
